PRESS RELEASE July/02/2008

Mexico was stretched to the limit by Guatemala

SAN SALVADOR, July 2, 2008.- Mexico had to battle to defeat Guatemala 3-2 and qualify in Pool B of fhe U-21 Norceca Men’s Continental Championship. The sets finished 25-27, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-5.

“I have to give credit to Guatemala who placed very well different than us who had a disastrous game,” said Jorge Azair, the Mexican coach.

“We entered the court over confident which at the end became anxiety and that was the reason for a match full of mistakes. Our serves didn’t work, neither the reception and I hope we can get a good experience out of this match because from here on is only win and win.”

Meanwhile, the Guatemalan coach, Jorge Paz, considered the final fall was due to the lack of international experience and fatigue.

“Many of our players were tired, we did not have preparation matches and that was evident at the end. But I am satisfied with the effort of my boys.”

Francisco Enriquez, with 23 points, led five Mexican in double digits: Leonardo Manzo (16), Ricardo Yepez (14), Juan Velásquez (14) and Carlos Urias (10).

Andy Leonardo led Guatemala with 21 and Luis Garcia added 9.
